Acquired Brain injury

Acquired brain injury (ABI) is defined as any “injury to the brain which occurs after birth.” Injury/trauma or illness can cause acquired brain injuries.

Since the inner ear is directly connected to the central nervous system in humans, it is not surprising that hearing problems are common after a traumatic brain injury. Tinnitus, a ringing, roaring or buzzing in the ears, and hearing loss are two of the most widely reported side effects of a TBI.

The clinicians at London Audiology Consultants have a number of TBI patients on our caseloads. We provide treatment ranging from counselling, tinnitus management, auditory processing assessment and management, and/or amplification.
